3 places I will visit

April 18, 2009

The travel area of this blog hasn’t really taken off yet. It’s unfortunate, but it’s the way things are until I get out of school.

I thought I would make a post here talking about three places that I will visit someday.

Place #1)    Peru

I am thinking that this will be my first trip once I can save up some money. I will be returning from hiking in August and then my focus will be saving up for my travels.

What do I want to do in Peru? I want to spend most of my time around Cusco and hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. I want to experience the local culture and definately get a good grasp of what the food is like there. I’m sure it is great!

Place #2)    Twin Lakes area of Lake Clark National Park, Alaska

I first heard about a guy named Dick Proenneke a little while back from my dad. I have since watched several DVDs about his life. Basically, Dick left civilization behind and lived in one of the most remote areas of Alaska for 30 years. He was an extremely skilled outdoorsman and builder and made his own log cabin with nothing but hand tools.

Twin Lakes was the home of this incredible man and is still one of the most wild areas of what my dad calls, “The last frontier.”

I’ve looked into going there and it is going to definately take some savings. I would have to take a float plane to Twin Lakes from Anchorage and that alone would cost me about $1600-$2000 from what I have learned so far. I emailed a couple bush pilots and they were very helpful.

Place #3)    Thailand

You could say that I’m obsessed with going to Thailand. I’m still trying to convince my girlfriend to pack up our things and move there permanently, and I haven’t even been there before. I have done extensive research on going there and it seems like a real eye opening place.

I’m concentrating mostly on visiting Chiang Mai, Bangkok, and Pattaya. These places are not extremely close to eachother geographically so it might be a long trip. Gee that will suck :-)

Bangkok is gigantic, Chiang Mai is decent sized, and Pattya seems touristy; but I still want to really focus on trekking into the countryside and seeing what rural Thailand has to offer.

So, those are just a few of the places I plan on visiting during my life. Now I just have to work on building my business and creating the lifestyle that will allow me to travel as much as I want!

get free updates when I post again by rss or by email. if you really want to make my day then you can share this post with your network. you rock.

Chiang Mai and Bangkok will definitely not disappoint you! However, Pattaya has been going downhill for awhile now. I would really not recommend it. But it is only an hour-ish away from Bangkok so you can definitely do a day trip!

You should also check out Chiang Rai (I think it’s right next to Chiang Mai…my Thai geography kinda sucks. but we have like 77 provinces <–see? I don’t even know the exact number) I think you would definitely enjoy that.

Maybe not entirely pack up and move there right away, definitely check it out for a trip first!

Good luck on your travels :-)

Thank you for your advice! Maybe Pattaya will have to be a daytrip :-) I’m going to check out some info on Chiang Rai right now…
