Information is traveling at an alarming rate. Just a few years ago a network might consist of a number of people in the hundreds. Now it’s in the tens of thousands. You used to have to treat every single potential customer with almost a kind of urgency. You needed an email and name right up front or you might just lose them for good.
Now there are now so many places to connect that this really isn’t necessary anymore. People aren’t going to forget about you if you are doing things even close to the right way.
In other words, there’s no rush to get an opt-in anymore.
Email lists used to be at the front of the equation with online marketing, now I think it’s at the very end. You don’t need email to build a relationship, it’s outdated. Save your email campaigns for the select few people who have gotten to know you and your brand well enough that they don’t HAVE to be bribed into giving away their information.
I think I’m just sick of cheezy squeeze pages.
